A HERITAGE CENTRE FOR PORTSLADE

GIVE THE GO-AHEAD FOR A HERITAGE CENTRE FOR PORTSLADE

Local groups have been working for months to get Brighton and Hove Council to give their approval to set up a Heritage Centre in the disused Old Police Station in St Andrews Road.

We think that such a centre, with many community uses, will help to lift this area of south Portslade - which at present is not firing on all cylinders.

At the request of the Council an action proposal was put together in September - with the full support of local Portslade councillors and local groups. It is a great document.

SINCE THEN THE COUNCIL HAVE GONE QUIET ON US!

We call on Brighton and Hove Council to respect the wishes of the overwhelming majority of Portslade residents and give this brilliant plan the go-ahead!

Why is this important?

Portslade has suffered for many years from being a poor relation to other parts of Brighton and Hove. Yet it has a vibrant and loyal local community. Change might be coming to Portslade from outside in the form of the Joint Area Action Plans for the port area. Setting up a Heritage Centre in the southern part of Portslade would bring regeneration to Portslade from within the community.
A Heritage Centre will cater to all sections of the community ā€“ school children, adults, and older people. It would create a community resource and shared space and it could bring visitors into Portslade thus helping to grow the local economy.

How it will be delivered

We shall deliver them in person to the Council. Press coverage.
