An Investigation into Glasgow's Cleansing Crisis

Dear Reader
The cleansing situation in Glasgow has deteriorated to an unprecedented level. While we have heard that recruitment efforts are underway, it is vital to understand how the situation has been allowed to reach this point.
It is now common to see only one lone worker in the city centre, and the state of our streets is, quite frankly, beyond embarrassing.
We have gone from a time when bus shelters were regularly washed and street signs cleaned, to a city that has declined significantly.
The Head of Cleansing must urgently communicate their strategy for improving the situation. There must be clear answers to the following concerns:
- Why are cleansing staff not being effectively managed, particularly when there are ongoing reports of bins being emptied without care, resulting in litter blowing down the streets?
- Why are many areas consistently left unswept?
- Why is fly-tipping left for weeks at a time without action?
- Why are formal requests for street washing—common practice in many European cities—met with silence or no follow-up?
Why is this important?
The people of Glasgow deserve better. We must no longer accept the embarrassment associated with the condition of our city.
