WASPI scandal: Pay out compensation to the women affected
Bring in emergency legislation to compensate the thousands of women affected by the mismanagement of the increase in the Women’s State Pension Age by the Department of Work and Pensions and make sure the Department of Work and Pensions apologises for the injustice.
Why is this important?
The Government has announced it will reconsider whether to compensate the WASPI women, following growing pressure and undisclosed "evidence"
Last December, the Government announced women born in the 1950s would not be compensated for a change in the state pension age after it was lifted to be in line with men - from 60 to 65. Waspi women - Women Against State Pensions Inequality argue that this was done too quickly, leaving some women financially unprepared to cope with the number of years when they were no longer able to claim their state pension.
The Government must act swiftly and compensate all the women affected and apologise for the immense suffering caused. It’s time to finally give thousands of women the justice they deserve.
