Ebacc must include creative sixth pillar

Dear Michael Gove. Please reform the English Baccalaureate (EBacc) proposals, to include a sixth pillar for creative subjects such as Art, Design and Technology, Music, Drama and Dance.

Why is this important?

The current Ebacc proposal is a five pillar curriculum with the core subjects of Maths, English, Languages, Science and Humanities. The Ebacc threatens the very future of creative subjects - like Music, Art, Design & Technology, Drama and Dance. Children will be denied a fully rounded education as schools drop these subjects from their curriculum portfolios completely.
All children can and should benefit from receiving a wide-ranging, adventurous and creative Cultural Education. For many young people, cultural activities form a vital part of their everyday lives. These activities are academically, physically and socially enriching, whether they take place in school or out-of-school.
It is vital that a sixth pillar for Creative Subjects is included as core.
If we do not do this, we will marginalise and lose the vital knowledge, skills and learning which underpin both our education system and our creative and cultural economy in which art and design plays such a crucial role.
The governments's consultation process to challenge the current Ebacc proposals has closed and we are now asking for an independent parliamentary inquiry. Please sign this petition now, and forward it to all your friends. Please help save our childrens' creative futures.
