Find a sustainable alternative to blue plastic pool shoes

We, the undersigned, request that you please find a sustainable alternative to plastic pool shoes at Edinburgh Leisure pools.

We understand the need to keep your changing areas clean and recognise that an effective way of doing this is providing visitors to your swimming pool changing areas with plastic pool shoes. However, like plastic carrier bags, these pool shoes are only designed for single use and end up adding a significant amound of plastic to landfill.

We, therefore, urge you to either get rid of them completely and encourage people to go barefoot when visiting their pool changing areas or can replace them with a reusable (possibly fabric) alternative. This small change would make a significant environmental impact and help to dramatically reduce Edinburgh Leisure's carbon footprint.

Thank you for taking the time to read this email and for coming up with a sustainable solution to this problem.

Why is this important?

To keep the changing areas and poolside clean, visitors to Edinburgh Leisure swimming pools are provided with and encouraged to wear blue plastic pool shoes. While this does achieve its desired result, it results in a lot of plastic shoes ending up in landfill after a single use. If Edinburgh Leisure can provide a sustainable solution to this, we can seriously reduce the amount of plastic ending up in landfill and significantly decrease Edinburgh Leisure's carbon footprint.

These plastic pool shoes resemble plastic carrier bags in many ways and, like plastic bags, are only designed for one use. We would like to see Edinburgh Leisure either get rid of them completely and encourage people to go barefoot when visiting their pool changing areas or replace them with a reusable, washable, fabric alternative.
