Introduce stringent test for Taxi / Private hire drivers licence.

1)Should make mandatory a BTEC award or NVQ qualification on customer care or level two certificate in introduction to the role of the professional taxi and private hire driver.

2)Applicant must have held a DVLA drivers licence for a minimum of 12 months before they can apply for Hackney/Private hire driver’s licence.Applications should be accepted from individuals who hold an EU driving licence. However, they should be required to have held a UK, if you have been in the United Kingdom for 12 months or more.

3)Want the Council to put all new applications on hold and bring Driver and Vehicle Standard Agency (DVSA) taxi assessment back again (The standard driving assessment) to drive a taxi (HACKNEY) or private hire vehicle (PHV).

Why is this important?

The reason for the petition is the "well being of public safety" Wolverhampton Private Hire Drivers Group has joined a growing band of campaigners who have raised safety concerns over 'falling standards' in the trade since the city council changed the way drivers need to qualify for a taxi badge. They now have only to pass a one-day course.
