To: northern stage
making gary clarke's wasteland open casting.
we would like northern stage to make this an open casting opportunity.
we think this is a fair request and would enhance the storytelling and overall production.
we think this is a fair request and would enhance the storytelling and overall production.
Why is this important?
do women not understand what it is like to be forced to work their whole lives away with no reward or recognition? on life experience alone surely they are overqualified to represent an oppressed underclass whose work is under rewarded and never ending?
we want fair opportunities for women, all women. an open casting is our request.
my great grandfather was a miner in sedgefield and many of my best friends are coalminer's daughters who have become doctors and teachers and professional musicians in that london through the back breaking life shortening hard work of the men and women in their families.
they still experience oppression on a daily basis and the love in their voices for the miners and the women in their lives, durham women are the best in the world, is energizing and radicalising because they understand the struggle. it is still present for them and for them to be denied opportunity based on sex or gender in 2019 is not my why great grandfather worked down the mines or why his son fought the second world war in north africa.
it is in their blood and in their voices. they have kept all the fight in their hearts and they have rekindled mine. they will empower the entire production. this is signficant improvement to an oversight which will erased with an open casting.
we deserve respect
we deserve equality
we deserve opportunity
we deserve representation
we deserve a chance.
we deserve an audition.
