No Housing Development of Moorfield Sports Club, Widnes

We believe that the Sporting/Recreation/Green Space of Moorfield Sports Club is extremely important in terms of making up part of the sporting pitch provision and green space of Widnes, along with the club house buildings. It has for many decades been a well used sporting facility and green space in Widnes and we believe that it must remain so.

This land is designated as sporting/recreational Green Space in Halton Borough Council's Local Plan, as such any permission to build a housing estate on it should be refused.

We have lost many of our green areas to housing development due to government planning laws. Housing development of this land would have a hugely detrimental impact on the people of Halton View and also on people living across the whole of Widnes.

The loss of trees, hedgerow and wildlife habitat is also unacceptable.

We urge Bellway Homes to think again and stop their proposal to demolish the well used sporting facility club house. There are youth teams that have been made homeless by Bellway's decision to close off the pitches to the teams that have long played on this land. Land that has for decades given young people of Widnes opportunity to exercise and to improve their health and wellbeing.

If they will not, we urge Halton Borough Council to do everything in their power to stop any part of this designated sporting/recreational/green space land being turned into a housing development.
