Parking restrictions surrounding Lasswade Primary School

Lift the new parking restrictions to be imposed on Lasswade Primary School families.

Why is this important?

By restricting parking to such an extent on the streets surrounding the school at drop off and pick up time, you will be endangering children and causing unnecessary stress and anxiety to parents trying to deliver and collect their children from school. Even parents within the catchment are panicking on social media as they say they often have to drive to drop off their children before heading on straight to work and simply won't have time to do so if they have to park the suggested distance from the school. And what about those older folk? The grandparents who collect or drop off - do we expect them to walk such a distance,? And spare a thought for those with babies and toddlers accompanying them to pick up and collect their older children from school - a hard enough task even when a short distance away? What is to stop a toddler from racing onto the main road from the pavement and who will put up their hand and admit responsibility when a child decides not to use the pedestrian crossing on the main road and runs across, causing an accident...or worse. At the end of the day, surely these parking restrictions in the Pendreich area are just going to cause people to park on the main road or across on other streets - moving the 'issue' to another area.
Some residents of the local area have also posted comments on social media stating they have concerns about the restrictions and were not contacted about them? Furthermore, and with no disrespect to local residents, the school has been there for many, many years and so those who have bought houses surely realised that they were purchasing near a school and that there would be two daily pick up and drop off times in the area.
Another point to consider: if the council decide to put a trial of these parking restrictions up, why on earth trial it during the coldest, iciest time of the year?
Finally, it is hard to avoid the feeling of being denied our rights as part of the Lasswade family/community. Being told we cannot park near our children's school just seems a huge denial of a basic right.
