Protect Noctorum Field & Preserve Wirral Green Space

We urge you to take the opportunity to list the historic Noctorum Field as a local green space and retain it - and it's future potential - as an eco-friendly and social asset. The 2.24 hectare site, which has been a playing field for nearly 120 years sits at the heart of the public footpath network and built environment across Noctorum Ridge.
It is a beautiful and tranquil wooded green oasis at the heart of a green eco-corridor that has developed around the field's special characteristics as a school playing field status. It is home to numerous birds species, over 150 old trees around its boundary and rare indigenous flowers at its borders.
The circular walks around it have a proved an important and very popular local natural "green-bathing" route for ever increasing numbers of people who have taken exercise and sought to promote their sense of well-being around it through the pandemic.
Conferring local green space status supports Wirral Borough Council's Climate Emergency Declaration and will help protect a eco jewel in Wirral's green crown for it's people now and in the future for their leisure, heritage and enjoyment.
Very importantly too, the listing will ensure a beautiful urban green space continues to be a space for sport and play for future generations of Birkenhead School children.
As Wirral councillors and teh Director of Place your support for Local Green Space status would be an act of contemporary civic mindedness which honour's the tradition of civic green spaces which was such an integral part of the town's original planning.
Birkenhead Park's importance as the world first municipal park inspired the greening of the urban scape around it. Efforts to have the park listed as a World Heritage Site will be underpinned by your decision to retain the green park area built environments that became Birkenhead Park tributes and tributaries.
Please accept our petition to keep Noctorum Ridge's green beauty and protect it as a green jewel in Wirral's green future.

Why is this important?

Protecting Noctorum Field as a Local Green Space is just one of the many local acts needed globally to protect the planet.
Your support for this petition is an act of climate responsibility. Sustaining, protecting, growing and defending our natural and ancient green spaces requires people to care about the environment and eco-cultures in their localities. And resident and people led movements to protect their local lived environment can support our elected and borough officials to protect the social, environmental values of the biosphere for the well-being people locally and globally.
