Save Bristol's Libraries

The Greens and Lib Dems have put forward a budget proposal to cut Bristol’s libraries budget by up to £2.4m - out of a £4.7m budget. These cuts would lead to the closure of over half our city’s libraries – that will be devastating for local communities and cannot be allowed to go ahead.

We, the undersigned, call on the Greens and the Liberal Democrats to save our libraries and abandon their funding cuts.

*UPDATE*

Bristol’s libraries are under threat... again. Earlier this year, the Green–Lib Dem Council tried to slash £2.4 million from our £4.7 million library budget, a move that would have closed down more than half of Bristol’s libraries. Thanks to Labour councillors and community pressure, we stopped them. However, following a committee vote in May, these closures are back on the table. Our libraries are more than buildings, they’re community lifelines. Don’t let the Greens shut them down. Take two minutes to speak up and protect our community spaces by signing the petition.

Why is this important?

Libraries provide a crucial service to the city, not least for the worst-off. Our valued community spaces need to be protected and invested in.

Libraries need more investment, not less.
