Save Pwll Coch Field

Cardiff Council must review plans that show the annexation of green infrastructure to development. Ref - 20/00035/MJR

Why is this important?

Ysgol Gymraeg Pwll Coch is currently surrounded by green fields, hedging and trees. After several years of phased planning, the school will be fenced in on all sides by development. They will have their field, forest school, hedging and allotment annexed.

On council plans (see tree report and site drawings) show the removal of green infrastructure from around the school. It will leave them with reduced natural outdoor space to accommodate the new curriculum relating to outdoor learning, without natural aspect or pollution filtration from the trees and hedging.

Crammed development will wipe out habitat and biodiversity that Welsh Government has promised to protect. The development will be near Sites of Special Scientific Interest including drainage ditches and known locations of habitat/foraging grounds for European Protected Species.

In a letter from Natural Resources Wales it is stated they have significant concerns regarding the lack of mitigation including measures to assist wildlife to continue to thrive and an increased flood risk to 3g pitches. Any new facilities, pitches or play areas that carry an increased risk of flooding to the depth of 1 foot are useless to the community.

We believe so much development in one small area and the development site entrance situated between two schools will undoubtedly lead to a huge increase in traffic around Leckwith estimated to be 50-60 units per day.

Cardiff Council must review the plans. The needs of future generations of children, the increased flood risk (as stated by NRW) and destruction of habitat should be treated as a priority and not as an afterthought.

You can't replace mature trees and you can't replace childhood experience.

Ar hyn o bryd mae caeau gwyrdd, perthi a choed yn amgylchynu Ysgol Gymraeg Pwll Coch. Fel canlyniad i’r cynllun hon mi fydd ein hysgol yn cael ei hamgylchu ar bob ochr gan ddatblygiad. Byddwn yn colli ein cae, ysgol goedwig, perthi a rhandir.

Bydd yna llai o le yn yr awyr agored i ddarpariaeth ar gyfer y cwricwlwm newydd, diffyg adnoddau dysgu hanfodol a cholled ardal naturiol sy’n creu byffer rhag llygredd. Bydd y datblygiad yn difetha cynefin a bioamrywiaeth y mae Llywodraeth Cymru wedi addo eu hamddiffyn. Mi fydd y datblygiad o fewn tafliad carreg i Safleoedd o Ddiddordeb Gwyddonol Arbennig gan gynnwys ffosydd ddraenio a lleoliadau hysbys o gynefinoedd / tiroedd chwilota ar gyfer Rhywogaethau Gwarchodedig Ewropeaidd.

Mae Cyfoeth Naturiol Cymru yn pryderu’n sylweddol ynghylch y diffyg i leihau’r canlyniadau gan gynnwys mesurau i gynorthwyo bywyd gwyllt i barhau i ffynnu. Maent hefyd yn rhagweld bod risg uwch o lifogydd i’r caeau 3g. Credwn bod unrhyw gyfleusterau newydd, caeau neu fannau chwarae newydd â risg uwch o lifogydd yn ddiwerth I’r gymuned.

Credwn y bydd cymaint o ddatblygiad mewn un ardal cyfyng yn arwain at gynnydd enfawr mewn traffig o amgylch Lecwith a bydd yn rhoi plant mewn perygl.

Rhaid i Gyngor Caerdydd adolygu’r cynlluniau. Mae angen ystyried, fel blaenoriaeth ac nid fel ôl-ystyriaeth, anghenion a dyfodol cenedlaethau o blant, y risg uwch o lifogydd a dinistrio cynefin.

Nid oes modd ail osod coed aeddfed ac ni allwchddistriwio profiadau plentyndod.
