Stop party politics interfering with our children's education

Support the establishment of a small national commission to draw up proposals outlining how responsibility for national policy-making for education may be decoupled from the machinery of party politics.

Why is this important?

Our country's future development depends upon the good education of all our children. For too long educational policy-making has been a point-scoring exercise between different parties, often with little reference to the views and knowledge of the professionals. At the moment there are a raft of controversial political proposals for change to our children's education that are being challenged by voices across the educational spectrum. If those who work in education are unable to support such changes there is a real risk that this will have a serious impact upon our country's children. A brave Secretary of State would perceive this danger and seek a consensual way forward.
