• Lets end the Parking nightmare for residents in West Hampstead!
Parking on weekends in the CAQ zone on Medley and Iverson Road is already a nightmare and is set to become even worse when the new developments and shops open. While we support the growth in the area this problem needs to be remedied NOW before the new developments open. I've lived in West Hampstead now for the last 8 years and LOVE the area. While i fully support the growth in the area i am some what worried about parking going forward when the new blocks open on Iverson Road and West end lane. I live on the lovely road medley just off iverson. Parking has always been tricky but in the last few months it's been near impossible to park near by due to the building works taking place during the week (for the new developments) and the farmers market on Saturdays. Sundays are less problematic. I am however aware that this will become even more tricky once the new flats open. As it stands i'm aware that the new blocks haven't been granted residents parking but that if restrictions aren't enforced now for Saturdays then parking will be near impossible at the weekend. With that in mind i have been talking to neighbours and we want to start a petition to enforce restrictions that parking in the CAQ area for Medley and Iverson is brought forward to Saturdays also (as it is in highly populated areas in the CAP area).

  • Rebuild the Carlton Tavern
Foreign investors (CLTX is an Israeli-based development company) should not be allowed to ignore with impunity local regulations in this country, relating to the development of sites which already have historically important and locally cherished buildings on them. If this action goes unchallenged, it may set a precedent and then who knows what other buildings and places of historic interest will be targeted and ruined?

  • Say no to Sports Hub in Greenbelt Walton-on-Thames Riverside
The site is 50 metres from the river Thames in a peaceful part of the river in Walton-on-Thames. Between the site and the waters edge sits the Weir Hotel, a public house that was built in 1856 and is frequented by many on a summers evening. The floodlighting will delete the night sky, causing so much light pollution , the bats that use the Thames Corridor for navigation will become confused. A noise survey was carried out in 2012 by the Weir Hotel proving the bats are here. The constant noise from 6 football pitches, 4 rented to the public until 10pm every night will cause noise pollution and destroy the ambience of this area. This proposed site is Council land and Elmbridge Borough Council are applying for planning permission for themselves. Please help us stop them.

  • List the Boleyn Tavern as an Asset of Community Value
CAMRA calls the Boleyn “one of the more spectacular late-Victorian pubs in London” and its amazing interior is largely intact- an absolute rarity. More importantly, it serves a vital community function in a part of London where very few pubs remain. There is concern that the departure of West Ham football club from the nearby Boleyn ground, and the subsequent development of the ground for housing might impact the pub’s future. This petition is an attempt to afford some extra protection to a unique part of London’s history and a vital community asset.

  • Superfast Broadband
Fiskerton-cum-Morton has been left out of the NCC broadband programme despite significant local demand and a real need for decent connectivity for the farmers, local businesses, families and school children who live and work in the village. We have forced BT to review their designs and they have confirmed they have a technical solution. We have challenged NCC on their programme and they have confirmed that our scheme compares will with other locations that have already been upgraded under the Better Broadband for Nottinghamshire programme. However neither BT nor NCC are willing (or even apparently interested) in confirming when, or if, we will be upgraded - either with the underspend in the existing BT contract or within the next round of funding.

  • Action on Caerphilly Town Air Quality
In 2008 parts of Caerphilly Borough were designated as an Air Quality Management Area due to high levels of nitrogen dioxide, which is associated with lung disease and respiratory problems. Caerphilly town centre is a specific problem area. In 2014 the Council approved an Air Quality Action Plan, which included traffic management measures designed to address the problems. Measures include short term steps and longer term strategies, such as reducing the amount of traffic passing through narrow town centre streets by building a south eastern by-pass. There is no evidence that such a measure will increase traffic or pollution; rather it will re-route traffic through non-populated areas. Modelling carried out to date suggests the measures set out in the action plan will significantly reduce pollution levels in the town centre. To date there has been a lack of action. The action plan suggests further work is subject to further modelling and further funding. The residents of Caerphilly derserve action, not words. Our health and the health of our children is at stake. We call on the Council to take action.

  • Better Broadband for Rural Areas
A recent survey by the Federation of Small Businesses found that only 16% of small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs) in rural areas had access to superfast broadband. Some 10-15% of the population could not get broadband despite a government target to hit 95% by 2017. Before spending £millions on enhancing to mega-speeds areas which already have a more than adequate service, everyone i.e. 100% should have a minimum standard to enable businesses to run, websites to be uploaded and students to study. I wonder - if 5% of the population signed a petition would it make any difference? That is an incredibly depressing and abysmal picture. Question for our Government, what will you do about it?

  • Cap rent increases and prevent rising poverty
Year after year landlords and Councils have increased rents by at least 4%. This year many are levying 4% increases at a time when many ordinary people - 'hard working families' to use politician speak, are on minimum wage and who have not had a wage rise in 2 years. Private landlords and local Councils are proactively making people poorer as expenses increase and income remain stagnant. Just recently The Royal Bank of Scotland, that was bailed out by tax payers, has defended plans to pay £588m in staff bonuses despite suffering an £8.24bn loss in 2013 as it slumped into the red for the sixth successive year. Ross McEwan, its Chief Executive, is expected to earn £2.7m for simply doing a job he was brought in to do. However, the bank is still in the red, so he hasn't achieved the goal, yet he still receives more money in bonuses than most people earn in a lifetime. Barclays increased bonuses by 10% to £2.4bn. HSBC said it would increase salaries for its bosses to get around a European union cap on bonuses. Are we going to swallow this silently? We clearly are not 'all in this together'. Perhaps the worst offenders are those local Councils who are taking the easy option and passing on the costs of their central government funding shortfall to those in social housing and those who have to pay council tax - those who have the least ability to pay and do anything about the increase. It is sickening to hear politicians speaking about raising people out of poverty yet allowing this activity to continue.

  • Disposal of nuclear waste - right to challenge under threat
If this piece of legislation goes ahead then there will be virtually no way to stop nuclear waste dumps being foisted on communities around the UK without any way to challenge them - the Secretary of State would have overall power to enforce anything considered to be of 'National Significance'. This will remove the rights of local authorities to challenge the decision around where to locate these sites.

  • Stop the privatisation of UK Planning Portal.
It’s been a while coming but it has been revealed that TerraQuest has been chosen by DCLG to partner with them in a joint venture to provide the ongoing delivery and commercialisation of the Planning Portal service. This has been quietly processed to avoid the public having their say. The joint venture has claimed it will not charge applicants or LPAs for using the Portal’s 1App planning application service [yet] and that a new and improved 1App and website will be delivered by TerraQuest’s prime subcontractor Civica, later in 2015. They say existing service will remain in place until the new website is launched – they promise there will be no disruption to the public, but how can privatisation of a core planning service be in the public interest? It is the intention to transfer staff to the new business before the end of the financial year however the JV is subject to final negotiation and therefore any questions regarding the process of commercialisation should be urgently directed to the Minister to question how the government can justify this conflict and prevent this public service being privatised. Why privatise something that is not intended to make money and that is presently free to everyone?

  • Somercotes against development
We are living in the shadow of 4 historic landfill sites. And are currently in danger of being developed due to the core strategy for housing in Amber Valley Derbyshire. We currently have a live planning application for 200 new homes on top of a landfill site and a potential 700 more within 800 metres help our plight.... This is important for the future health of people in the area.
