Introduce a 20mph default speed limit for all residential roads in March town, Cambridgeshire.
Why is this important?
A 20mph default speed limit is needed for all residential roads in March town so that pedestrians and cyclists are safer and those who want to ride bikes will not discouraged from doing so. This will encourage healthier transport choices and in turn will lead to cleaner air, safer roads and better health for everyone.
The current 30mph speed limit is too fast for where there are pedestrians and cyclists using the roads too. In particular for children, the elderly and the most vulnerable in society. The 30mph limit discourages walking and cycling and promotes car use for short urban journeys. The end result is that traffic levels rise in an already busy urban environment, leading to aggressive driving, more traffic jams and higher levels of pollution. We want to reverse this trend and make the roads safer and more pleasant for everyone.
