Against the Tenement Tax
Stop the use of private contractors in any part of our bin collection and stop any charge being passed on to residents.
Why is this important?
This is a campaign run by GMB Glasgow City Council members in refuse and cleansing. We object to the use of private contractors to do Council work and the passing on of costs to housing association tenants.
Glasgow City Council are working 'in partnership' with Partick Housing Association who in turn are hiring private contractors to pull bins from back closes to the street. There is no doubt that this will be an extra charge to residents. We believe Council Work should be done by Council workers and paid for by our Council Tax- not an extra charge!
GCC have been clear that they will role this out across Glasgow if they get the chance. 75% of Glasgow's houses are tenements and so this has the potential to impact almost all of us.
Let's campaign to keep all work in the hands of GCC and stop the roll out of the Tenement Tax!
