Continue funding for Citywide Tribunal Service

6/1/16 - We won!

The tribunal service has got another three months' funding from Belfast City Council!

Continue funding for Citywide Tribunal Service

Belfast City Council must keep funding the Citywide Tribunal Service until a new backer is found.

Why is this important?

We need you to call on Belfast City Council to continue funding the Citywide Tribunal Service until alternative funding is secured.

The Citywide Tribunal Service offers free, confidential and independent advice to those seeking to appeal decisions on their benefits applications, such as Disability Living Allowance, Employment and Support Allowance, and Housing Benefit.

Without the Citywide Tribunal Service, applicants who wish to appeal benefits decisions may have to go through the appeals process alone. This can be a confusing, costly and time-consuming process.

The rate of applications for benefits is expected to rise significantly as welfare reform looms. This vital lifeline is about to be needed more than ever. Please, sign your name on this petition and join us in ensuring that Belfast City Council does the right thing.

Reasons for signing

  • No one knows when ill-health will strike. And when it does it can be devastating. Most people are only one or two pay cheques away from a life changing financial problem and the current welfare assessment system is a disgrace to humanity. The vulnerable are being targeted and they need somewhere to turn to for help. The tribunal service is often their last hope. It must be kept.
  • Tribunal decisions are often unjust. Of course those who need help, will need help to appeal! Where is the justice in denying them appeals?
  • this is an essential service which requires skilled dedicated staff it just cannot be done without
