Stop the lion and tiger tug-of-war 'attraction'

Stop the new "tug-of-war" attraction between zoo animals and visitors

Why is this important?

Dartmoor zoo are selling tickets for £15 each to have a tug-of-war with a captive lion or a tiger. It's cruel and shows a total lack of respect for these beautiful majestic wild animals.

It feels like we're going backwards, the zoo is acting more like a circus rather than somewhere that really cares about the health and safety of the endangered animals in their captivity.

The zoo claims it's to give the animals intellectual exercise and fun, but it comes across as putting profits before the animal's welfare. There are plenty of ways that experienced professionals can care for the rare animals, without turning them in to a novelty play thing for tourists.

Reasons for signing

  • Who allows this? A zoo to allow this shows a complete lack of respect for animals + has no regard of their physical or mental wellbeing. Clearly is for financial gain by which this zoo should not be allowed to "care" for animals. They are suppose to be ensuring the safety protection + wellbeing of all animals + this clearly is not the case with this poor lion/tiger. It's being seen as a toy not a sentient being who originates from the wild + can be an unruly animal.
  • This is disapointing to see in a civilised word, and especially from a Zoo, run as an animal wealfare charity.
  • This surprises me that this going to be entertainment Is this to gain cash Thought they made money from a film !! This is a awful thing today Local people will be made aware of this now
