Hebden Bridge Dry Dock needs to stay open

Re-open the dry dock on the canal at Hebden Bridge. It's been closed with no notice.

Why is this important?

UPDATE.... The petition was sent to Calderdale Council and ignored which is dissapointing. A formal complaint was submitted and they partly responded saying its closed due to needing repair, yet no work is taking place to repair it. Calderdale MP is now looking into it as the council completely ignore questions put to them. Apparently it will re-open when they find someone to take it on. More likely to get someone if the repairs are done! The CRT have also ignored requests to support this and suggestions that they may wish to manage it as its an essential boaters service that is in their interest. The support is amazing. Keep signing and sharing please and also perhaps email Calderdale Council at [email protected] and [email protected]

ORIGINAL POST... The facility is essential for boat maintenance for local boat owners and visitors to the town. It is necessary for boaters to maintain their boats so that they are safe and meet the BSS standards. They need dry dock Hull painting every couple of years and the facility provides employment for local engineers and boat repairs/maintenance. The dry dock is chargeable and generates profit and costs very little maintenance, efficiency savings is not a reason. There's already a queue of boats needing to go into dry dock and there is nothing available locally. Failure to open it again will cause boats to fall into disrepair, cause danger as surveys cannot be carried out and will destroy the canal vibrancy that exists in the area. Either re-open it or sell it and keep it open until there is a buyer that agrees to continue to operate it. Perhaps the Canal and River Trust will take it on. Calderdale Council you CANNOT simply close it. It is like shutting all car MOT garages.
