Increase funding and services for Mental Health and Suicide prevention.

Increase funding and services for Mental Health and Suicide prevention.

To increase spending on mental health services to help prevent vulnerable patients taking their own lives.

Why is this important?

This year I have lost two people to suicide! Two people I believe could have been saved if access to the mental health services were more readily available. No one should feel that the only way out of a situation is suicide! It's not right! Suicide is the biggest killer of young people under the age of 34, it's also the biggest killer of men under 50. Worryingly these statistics just keep rising! Mental health services have been stripped back, patients can be on waiting lists for months before seeing a psychiatrist and this leaves many young, vulnerable and seriously ill people at the brink often resulting in self medication through drug and alcohol misuse, self harm and all too familiar now, suicide.

I have suffered with mental health for the past 20 years! I have Emotional Unstable Personality Disorder, PTSD, Bulimia, Depression, Anxiety and Agoraphobia
I've been to the brink several times but luckily have had the support of loved ones to pull me back! Many people don't have this, they suffer in silence, waiting to receive the help they ask for when they finally seek it. I want to see more funding for community mental health teams, we need more awareness of mental health in schools and we need more awareness of the affects of mental health on individuals, families, communities as well as increase awareness around suicide and to seek ways in which we can reduce suicide so it's not the killer it is! The more we talk the more we can #EndTheStigma and I want to take this fight to Jeremy Hunt MP because it is down to him to help us address, highlight and spread awareness of mental health and suicide prevention!

Reasons for signing

  • More needs to be done to increase the understanding of the impact and trauma suffered by mental health patients. Until we understand this nothing will change.
  • Help needs to be available when people need it - not in weeks or in some cases months. Help needs to be consistent not dependent on which part of the U.K. you live in. Help needs to be readily available from the NHS - The NHS should not have to rely on Mental Health charities to plug the gaps, due to Goverment under-funding to Mental Heath Services .
  • Not only should the funding increase. The system needs to change dramatically. The people who are employed to do this Job need to be qualified and have a caring nature. The assessments need to have an action plan and an owner, a date this should start by. The problem with the system are to many assessments,no ownership. The system is SHAMBOLIC, everyone passes the patients from pillar to post but no one is actually doing there Job. constructive for the patient.
