Keep the name of Colston Hall

Keep the name of Colston Hall

To keep the name of Colston Hall, without change.

Why is this important?

It is time to educate and not eliminate. Bristol is slowly beginning to embrace it's part in the slave trade, but through the erasing of names associated with the trade it is taking a huge step back. The name needs to stay and context given to why it is there and who Edward Colston really was. Remember history, don't discard it.

Reasons for signing

  • We shouldn't erase history but acknowledge and learn from it
  • You cannot erase history, Edward Colston did a lot of good for this city, he wasn’t only a slave trader.
  • The name is part of Bristol's history. I agree with others.....we need to educate not eliminate.

4500 signatures, thankyou everyone. I am currently developing this petition alongside the other petition for the same cause that has reached over 4000 on change.org (Barrie Purnell) to make a case to the Bristol Music Trust.

3500 and counting. Currently I am in the process of contacting other petitions and movements to unify a stronger stance. The public need their voices heard in this matter and petitions like this can go a long way to making the media, the Music Trust, and the council aware of the outrage that is being felt throughout Bristol. Thankyou all again!

Amazing to have reached 1000 so quickly. Education not elimination, only through his name in the public sphere can his legacy both be remembered and criticised.

Thankyou to everyone who has signed so far. 500 is a great milestone to bringing this issue back. 1000 is the target to really challenge the movement that is attempting to eliminate Bristol history.

Nearly at 20, be sure to share this page with family and friends, and let them know why you want to keep the name as a recognition of Bristol's history.
