LIFE Should Mean LIFE for Murder

Life in prison should mean life or a minimum term of at least 25 years for all murder cases. Currently the minimum term for murder is 15 years. In manslaughter cases many offenders are released from prison within 5/6 years. This is an insult to the victim and their families and serves as no deterrent at all. Minimum mandatory sentences for murder and manslaughter need to be increased so that stronger sentences can be administered.

Why is this important?

The tragic loss of lives through violence, in particular knife and gun crime has to stop. Minimum mandatory sentences need to be increased. Current sentences are not serving as a deterrent and the only people serving the life sentence are the famiies of the victims.
