Make it Mandatory to cover new commercial rooftops in plants or solar panels

Make it Mandatory to cover new commercial rooftops in plants or solar panels

Make it mandatory for Rooftops on new buildings built in commercial zones to either be partially covered in plants or solar panels

Why is this important?

Green roofs have an insulating effect, helping reduce the amount of energy needed to heat a building in winter and cool it in summer.

Solar Panels cut energy bills and are good for the environment. This will also be a tremendous help in reaching government and international targets for decreasing carbon emissions in the fight against Climate Change.

France has just passed this legislation and you can read about it here:

Reasons for signing

  • It's negligent not to and I consider boarder line criminal not for the main contractors not to.
  • A very sensible suggestion, and I agree with the idea that roofs should be angled to maximise the light falling on them. Green roofs are an excellent suggestion for energy efficiency, and would almost certainly help conservation efforts too (rooftop meadows).
  • All new buildings should have roofs angled and designed to maximise the solar generation. Domestic buildings too - not just commercial.
