BBC Wales: Don't exclude the Greens/ BBC Cymru: Peidiwch ag eithrio’r Blaid Werdd

UPDATE! 10/03/16 - We are delighted to announce that BBC Wales will be including the Wales Green Party in the televised leaders debates that will be taking place on the 26th of April, ahead of the National Assembly Elections for Wales in 2016.

We could not have done it without your help, so thank you very much.

Kim (petition starter)

In May 2016, the elections for the National Assembly of Wales will take place. The Wales Green Party is a serious contender in these elections with a strong chance of winning its first seat in the Senedd. Despite this, the Wales Green Party has been excluded from participation in recent broadcasts by BBC Wales.

Please sign this petition to ask that BBC Wales include the Wales Green Party in future leaders debates and political programs.

Ym Mai 2016, cynhelir yr etholiadau ar gyfer Cynulliad Cenedlaethol Cymru. Mae Plaid Werdd Cymru’n blaid o bwys i’w hystyried yn yr etholiadau, ac mae cyfle gwirioneddol iddi ennill ei sedd gyntaf yn y senedd. Er gwaethaf hyn, nid yw Plaid Werdd Cymru wedi ei chynnwys mewn darllediadau diweddar gan BBC Cymru.

Why is this important?

Over the last 12 months, membership of the Wales Green Party has tripled. In May we will be fielding candidates in constituencies across Wales, and already have our candidates for all regional lists.
In the most recent polls (30 Nov – 4 Dec 2015), the Wales Green Party equalled the percentage support of the Welsh Lib Dems on the regional level, demonstrating that on a proportional level, our policies equal the popularity of those proposed by a party who is always included in your debates.

We have a strong tradition of progressive politics in Wales. The proportional element of Welsh Assembly elections provides a much better system of representation. We are miles ahead of the rest of the UK in terms of a fair electoral system and a decent democracy.

However, a proper democracy also requires that voters are well informed and can make a proper choice. The media plays an important role in educating voters about the policies, values and visions for Wales of all the parties for which they may choose to vote. By excluding the Wales Green Party from leaders debates, BBC Wales is not allowing the Welsh population a proper political education before going to the ballot box.

The Wales Green Party is calling on BBC Wales to include the Wales Green Party in all its leadership debates and political programs ahead of the National Assembly elections in Wales

Yn ystod y 12 mis diwethaf, mae aelodaeth Plaid Werdd Cymru wedi treblu. Ym Mai bydd gennym ymgeiswyr mewn etholaethau drwy Gymru, ac eisoes mae gennym ymgeiswyr ar gyfer pob rhestr ranbarthol.

Yn y polau piniwn diweddaraf (30 Tachwedd - 4 Rhagfyr 2015), roedd gan Blaid Werdd Cymru'r un ganran o ran cefnogaeth ar lefel rhanbarthol â Democratiaid Rhyddfrydol Cymru, sy’n dangos, ar lefel gyfrannol, fod ein polisïau'r un mor boblogaidd â’r rhai a gynigir gan blaid sydd bob amser wedi ei chynnwys yn eich dadleuon.

Mae gennym draddodiad hir o wleidyddiaeth flaengar yng Nghymru. Mae’r elfen gyfrannol sy’n rhan o etholiadau i Gynulliad Cymru’n cynnig llawer gwell system o ran cynrychiolaeth. Rydym yn bell ar y blaen i weddill y Deyrnas Unedig o safbwynt system etholiadol deg a democratiaeth addas.

Fodd bynnag, er mwyn sicrhau democratiaeth briodol mae angen i bleidleiswyr gael yr wybodaeth briodol a gallu gwneud y dewis cywir. Mae gan y cyfryngau rôl bwysig i addysgu pleidleiswyr am bolisïau, gwerthoedd a gweledigaethau ar gyfer Cymru gan bob plaid y maen nhw’n dewis pleidleisio drosti. Trwy beidio â chynnwys Plaid Werdd Cymru yn y dadleuon rhwng arweinwyr y pleidiau, nid yw’r BBC yn rhoi cyfle i bobl Cymru gael addysg wleidyddol briodol cyn bwrw eu pleidlais.

Mae Plaid Werdd Cymru’n galw ar BBC Cymru i gynnwys y Blaid Werdd yn yr holl ddadleuon rhwng arweinwyr a rhaglenni gwleidyddol cyn etholiadau ar gyfer Cynulliad Cenedlaethol yng Nghymru.

Reasons for signing

  • Just want fairness
  • I shall not be voting for them, but we live in a democracy, and they should be heard regardless.
  • I have been a GreenParty candidate in several elections and we are consistently starved out of voters' perceptions. Elections are the time when British people allow themselves to be drawn into political debate; the inclusion of Greens in mainstreem discussion is vital.
