Michael Gove to Teach for a Term

Dear Mr Gove,
Before you make any further suggestions of how you think the education system can be 'improved', please experience what teaching actually involves. As teachers, we work extremely hard in increasingly difficult conditions. We would like you to teach a class of primary children for at least half a term in order to appreciate and respect what a challenging job we actually do.

Why is this important?

It is absolutely absurd that, in this day and age, the secretary for education, who has the power to make important changes, has no grasp on the education system and what teachers do. Before Mr Gove can make any more ridiculous changes to our pay, pensions and working conditions, he needs to experience exactly what it is to be a teacher.

Reasons for signing

  • I would suggest an inner city South London school that 'needs improvement' should be used and ensure Mr Gove carries out all functions of a class teachers curriculum to include a minimum 8am - 6:30 day extending to evenings and weekends, planning, resourcing, after school activity, and the persistent stress of being monitored. Also, to not forget to involve any partner, the forgotten heroes in a teacher relationship.
  • Because he and the dept should be able to each practice what they preach - NB over a whole school year to qualify for a Government post in thiis dept..........'
  • Mr Gove needs realise the pressure and misery the teachers and children are experiencing because of the unrealistic changes that have been made to the curriculum. These changes should be made by teachers not ministers who have no idea on how their policies affect those in the education system.
