Open Letter to the SNP concerning Syria and party's role in challenging the vacuous rhetoric of war.
Encourage the SNP to reject the bombing of Syria, challenge the government’s war rhetoric and broaden the debate about the causes of war in the Middle East

Why is this important?
In the light of recent discussion over the proposed military involvement in Syria, there seems to be a broadening gulf between the public understanding which is rich and informed and a narrow, myopic and pallid debate in the commons. We feel that the SNP’s unique and privileged role for our country, which transcends party politics, offers an opportunity which is both precious and imperative.
At every opportunity the party should seek to challenge the very fabric of the system that facilitates the corruption of our democracy and the destruction of our neighbours. Starting with the limitations of the debate about military intervention in Syria and our role in the Middle East, our SNP representatives should broaden the issue and seek at once to diverge our politics from the corrupt system of established interest that dominates discussion in the south. If we do not, then what alternative for Scotland does the party project, and to who’s vision of the future should we aspire?
They must be committed to political engagement from an unredacted reality for a process of transparent, participatory democracy to function.
We seek no popularity in Westminster; we seek something far far greater.
