Public Services in Midlothian Matter

In Midlothian, our council has faced lack of investment over the last 10 years in relation to growth. Midlothian Council is the largest growing authority and is increasingly becoming more attractive as a place to live and work bringing more people into the area, however, this is not reflected in the additional funding the council requires to provide the services required to support a growing and vibrant population, putting further pressure on local infrastructures, services, and the staff who work to provide them. Please
ensure Midlothian’s services are properly funded.

Why is this important?

There is a broad consensus across Scotland that austerity is damaging our public services and the economy

We know that further lack of investment will have a severe and detrimental impact on my community and local services including those vital to the care of the elderly, educating our children and looking after the most vulnerable within them.

The Joint Trade Unions in Midlothian are part of the campaign against austerity and have organised a petition and letter writing campaign to add my voice to it, like them I believe:

• The local economy depends on a healthy public sector as public sector workers spend most of their money in their local communities.
• We value the excellent public services delivered by Midlothian Council and want them to continue to be delivered by democratically accountable Local Authorities.
• Need continual investment in relation to the exceptional fast growth in our community.
Please support the Trade Unions in Midlothian with our campaign to combat austerity and protect vital jobs and services.
