To give people the choice about who conducts their marriage and the location and the content of the ceremony. It is important to campaign for legislation to 1. Remove the requirement for premises to be licensed. 2. Give the celebrant the power to conduct and register the marriage, in any location, private or public, using premises or outside. 3. Allow the content chosen by the two people, in addition to the wording required by law and with no bar to the mixing of religious and secular. 4. Provide the means for independent practitioners, religious or secular, to register as wedding celebrants. 5. Ensure marriage is available for all people, including LGBT couples.
Why is this important?
Every person must have equal access to the state of marriage and have their choices concerning the arrangements respected.
