Save the Human Rights Act

Save the Human Rights Act

Stop the repeal of the Human Rights Act 1998.

Why is this important?

A refugee is a person who, "owing to a well-founded fear of being persecuted for reasons of race, religion, nationality, membership of a particular social group or political opinion, is outside the country of his nationality, and is unable to, or owing to such fear, is unwilling to avail himself of the protection of that country."
Refugees have been targeted by medias and by political parties for a long time in negative ways, and this has not been mitigated enough. This is linked to the lack of knowledge and awareness of the general population, public bodies, and refugees themselves. As a result, refugees and asylum seekers “have increasingly become tools for politicians”that demonize them, making it easier to take away frameworks that protect them such as the Human Rights Act 1998.
The HRA provides basic rights necessary to protect such a vulnerable group. However, this framework is currently under the threat of being repealed, which would be a considerable loss.

Reasons for signing

  • Abolishing the HRA 1998 essentially abolishes the ease at which one may complain, appeal and raise claims against Human Rights Breaches.
  • Tory scum must not be allowed to change our basic human rights.
  • I am sick and tired of more police powers over the public, I was born free and have God given rights and I will not give them up.
