Stop charging survivors of domestic abuse the collection fee for Child Maintenance

This campaign has ended.

Stop charging survivors of domestic abuse the collection fee for Child Maintenance

Exempt victim-survivors of domestic abuse using the Child Maintenance Service from the 4% resident parent collection fee (or 20% non-resident parent fee if they don't have care of their children).

Why is this important?

Using the Child Maintenance Service, rather than a family-based arrangement, may be the only safe way for victim-survivors of domestic abuse to claim support for their child(ren) from the other parent. Abuse doesn't necessarily end when the relationship does.
Ultimately, it is children who lose out on the money intended to support them.

Reasons for signing

  • I just signed your petition because I agree! Please support our campaing too: https://you.38degrees.org.uk/petitions/consider-all-children-when-calculating-child-maintenance-payments Good luck.
  • Because my sister is in the same situation and needs all the help she can get.
  • I have been in that position, and it can be hard to manage on a limited income especially in my case where my ex told social services that he gave the children pocket money- this amount was promptly taken from my support- and he was not even consistent with the ' said ' contributions. So I lost out and he thought it funny, but the children didn't really know this .
