For the sake of our common security make the UK a nuclear weapons-free zone.

Why is this important?

Four reasons to act now:

1) Pinning our security on a nuclear deterrent entices others to do the same. But in this new networked global arena, instead of protecting us, nuclear weapons make us a target for the disaffected. Let's change our offer to the world by becoming the first permanent member of the UN Security Council to give up all its nuclear weapons and transform the nuclear club from within.

2) Hosting nuclear weapons in our country presents a daily threat to our people. Any accident would lead to a humanitarian disaster that we are incapable of dealing with. Let's take those first important steps to putting our people and communities above war games and decommission Trident.

3) Having nuclear weapons diverts resources and attention from tackling our most urgent security problems, including climate and environmental destruction. We are spending limited resources on expensive illusions that keep us in thrall to the past. Let's switch the funds to safe, economically advantageous, green jobs that offer a sustainable, prosperous future. Let’s use our capacity for innovation by responding to our human and social potential.

4) Continuing to invest in nuclear weapons is actively depleting the military and any effective defences we might need in the 21st century including digital capability and soft power. Let's invest in a re-purposed military focused on conflict prevention. One that can effectively serve the needs - but also the potential - of our country and a changing world.

Move ON, sign now.

Reasons for signing

  • The impact of a nuclear bomb lasts generations. My Grandad helped clear up Hiroshima, came back conceived my mum, died at the early age of 39. My Mum developed Rheumatoid arthritis at the age of 28 . I was one of the fittest people at my School and suddenly developed Leukaemia at the age of 14. During that time I went to a camp for ‘kids with Cancer’ in Ireland. The majority of kids there were from the Ukraine, who had cancer due to Chernobyl. Let’s not perpetuate the nuclear age any further.
  • How can any sane person think of using that weapon. Think of Hiroshima & Nagasaki in 1945.
  • cost. Do not go war than our is not at risk.
