Write to Read! Stop Library Closures in Cornwall

Write to Read! Stop Library Closures in Cornwall

Dear Adam Paynter - please keep our libraries open for longer - don't cut their hours

Why is this important?
As an avid reader, it came as a shock to me that the opening hours of my local library were cut and were not seen as a priority for Cornwall Council - I think that these actions to cut the hours of the libraries should be halted immediately. Libraries are the only places where you can get books for free and the books are varied and of good quality.

Please assist me in my quest to save Cornwall's libraries. Sign this petition and help further by spreading the word.

Leon Remphry, Age 10

How it will be delivered

We will be delivering the petition on 4 September, please come along and support! Click for details and to RSVP:

Reasons for signing

  • Libraries should be at the heart of the community giving free and open access to books and far more. Think about people who work in regard to opening hours
  • We need a town library more than another would be high street store.
  • Libraries are important to broaden your mind, to give you an independent place to learn in your own ways and to enjoy new things

Together we put Cornwall’s libraries back on the agenda and forced Cornwall Council to understand that they cannot just make cuts without taking our views into consideration. We didn’t manage to change the budget decision but we forced Cornwall Council to listen. See my bog for the full outcome

Over 6000 sign Leon's petition but he is denied the opportunity to speak at full council until November when the budget is already set.

The combined amount of Cornish signatures on paper and online is 5106, so a full council debate is imminent. However, keep signing as our next objective is Parliament!
