• Liverpool against the Electronic Warfare Arms Fair
On 16-18 November 2020 international arms companies are due to meet up with military delegations from around the globe to show off the latest electronic warfare technology at the Exhibition Centre Liverpool. This technology is sold at great profit to countries in conflict, authoritarian regimes and countries carrying out serious and well documented human rights offences. This event should not be held in Liverpool, especially in a building that is effectively owned by the people of this city. It should be cancelled immediately and a firm commitment made never to hold any such event in the city's publicly owned buildings ever again. The Exhibition Centre is 100% owned by Liverpool City Council. It is managed for the city by The ACC Liverpool Group. The City Mayor and Deputy Mayor are on the board of the ACC Liverpool Group. The ACC Liverpool Group describes itself as an ethical and responsible company and has previously cancelled two events under pressure from the City Council.

  • Don’t follow Trump into another gulf war
Tensions are rising between Trump, Saudi Arabia and Iran. Some have said the three nations are on the brink of serious attacks and possibly war. Right now, Boris Johnson is considering deploying British troops to support the Saudi Arabian government - a regime that is partly responsible for one of the worst famines in human history and has horrific record of serious human rights abuses. The current plans for conflict are being spearheaded by President Trump, a hot-headed leader with a reputation for making rash decisions. And the UK PM has said he’s waiting on a call from President Trump or the Saudis asking him to provide military support in the coming weeks. The last time this happened, when Blair supported Bush’s war in the Middle East, British troops ended up being deployed for 13 years, and the conflict in Afghanistan is still ongoing. It’s time to show Boris Johnson that the UK public don’t want to get into bed with Trump and Saudia Arabia and enter another war.

  • Save Idlib
To Her Majesty's Government, We call on the UK government to practice its influence to bring to a halt the brutal military campaign led by Syrian and Russian forces against Idlib province in northern Syria. Syrian and Russian forces have violated the September 2018 ceasefire agreement with Turkey. Internationally forbidden weaponry and indiscriminate bombing tactics are in use against unarmed civilian populations. Hospitals, schools and places of worship are systematically targeted. According to UN estimates, 3 million people reside in Idlib province. 1 million of those are children and 40% are people who fled to Idlib to escape Syrian and Russian atrocities elsewhere in Syria. An immediate action is imperative. We call on the UK government to take the necessary political actions to save millions of lives.

  • Stop the Arms Fair in Newham
This September at ExCeL, International arms companies will meet up with military delegations from around the globe to show off the latest war technology. They are selling everything from bombs, drones, guns, warplanes, tanks, grenades as well as riot and restraint equipment. These weapons are sold at great profit to countries in conflict, authoritarian regimes and countries carrying out serious and well documented human rights offences. Many of these weapons will be used against civilians in non combat areas. DSEI (Defence and Security Equipment International) is one of the world’s biggest Arms Fairs. It is held every two years, at great expense to the UK taxpayer. It is opposed by people in the area and across the country, including opposition from the Mayor of Newham, the Mayor of London and local MP Lyn Brown.

  • Ban "Hunt Tourism" in Scotland!
Scotland is blessed with a diverse range of beautiful and unique wildlife. Often, a lack of natural predators means that grazing animals such as deer and wild goats are subject to culls, which are unfortunate but necessary, and conducted by professionals to limit the suffering of animals. What is unnecessary is the "hunt tourism" industry that encourages "tourists" from around the world, particularly Americans, to visit Scotland for the sole purpose of stalking, torturing and killing our beautiful and unique Scottish wildlife for pleasure. This is not the kind of tourism that we want in our country.

  • Portrait for £50 Note 2020
Noor Imyat Khan gave her life for the cause of freedom in this Nation‘s war to overthrow the Nazi Regime. Ms Noor served in the WRAF (Women‘s Royal Auxiliary Air Force) before transferring to the top secret Special Operstions Executuve set up by Winston Churchill, then as part of SOE was airdropped into France and organized and ran Churchill‘s network of resistance communication in Paris. Ms Noor was betrayed, and after suffering starvation and torture by the Gestapo in Dachau concentration camp, was executed by firing squad by the Nazi SS in 1944. Ms Khan was posthumously awarded the George Cross by King George VI in 1949. Here is proof of the inclusivity within Britain of the Muslim community. Ms Noor was also the first female radio operator sent into Nazi-occupied France in 1943. She was 29. Here is an opportunity to recognize the United Kingdom‘s inclusivity and its belief in democratic freedom. I respectfully invite likeminded members of the public to sign this Petition to the Bank of England.

  • Remove condition 16 of the licensing Act for Polzeath Pancake Shack
This is important for us as we pay a license to trade and we have overnight free camping which sometimes our spot gets parked in and we cannot trade, we are paying a license to trade and the council license team seem to think it’s not their problem if I can’t trade! Which then means I can’t provide a service to all my customers who come to Polzeath for my pancakes!! I employ local staff, and my carbon footprint is zero, I live here, all year round. Please sign and share and let the council know why you think this is important to you and your families when you come to visit Cornwall.

  • Lizard Loves the Little Big Gig
The Little Big Gig - among the other events staged by Henry’s Campsite - boosts tourism for the village. Far from being detrimental, they are a draw card for other local businesses. The Little Big Gig itself is held in late September, out of high season and provides a welcome influx of visitors before a long winter. This is an extremely rural community and events such as these are key in keeping us close knit. The village socialises together, bonds are formed and the village thrives. The council have threatened to close down the festival despite considerable effort to accommodate noise complaints. Next week they will make a decision. Will you sign this petition to let them know you want the festival to continue?

  • Lincolnshire welcomes refugees
We don't want Britain to be the kind of country that turns its back as people drown in their desperation to flee from war and persecution. To date, Lincolnshire County Council has refused to respond to the Government ‘invitation’ to Local Authorities to offer their support. Please sign this petition to show your support for Lincolnshire offering its help to refugees. It’s right to care, it’s important to reach out - that’s what makes a community. Let’s play our part.

  • Highland Council Pension Fund: Stop Funding War Crimes
Highland Council Pension Fund currently holds £5.4 million of shares in US arms company, General Dynamics, manufacturer and supplier of the MK-82 1000-lb and MK-84 2000-lb bombs that were used with such devastating effect by Israel against the people of Gaza during ‘Operation Protective Edge’ in 2014. Because of their ‘wide area effect’, the use of these weapons was condemned by the UN Human Rights Council as violating ‘the prohibition of indiscriminate attacks’; more thn 2,000 people, including at least 500 children, were killed as a consequence of the bombing of one of the world’s most densely populated areas. Highland Council Pensions Fund acquisitions are subject to explicit 'social, environmental and ethical considerations'. It is the duty of public institutions to uphold international law and human rights norms, and it is completely unacceptable that, through its pension fund, Highland Council should finance their ongoing violation! It’s time for Highland Council to examine its conscience, put its principles into practice and follow its own guidelines on ethical investment by divesting itself of its shares in General Dynamics.

  • Let Trump Baby Fly
Donald Trump is a big, angry baby with a fragile ego. He's also a racist demagogue who is a danger to women, immigrants and minorities and a mortal threat to world peace and the very future of life on earth. Moral outrage is water off a duck’s back to Trump, but he really seems to hate it when people make fun of him. So when Trump visits the UK on Friday the 13th of July this year, we want to make sure he knows that all of Britain is looking down on him and laughing at him. That's why a group of us have chipped in and raised enough money to have a 6 meter high blimp made by a professional inflatables company, to be flown in the skies over Parliament Square during Trump's visit. Unfortunately, we need the Mayor of London's permission to be able to fly Trump Baby from Parliament Square - and Sadiq's team at City Hall have told us that flying Trump Baby does not qualify as a 'protest'. They are insisting that the only form of protest that is legally allowable on their land is "a gathering of people, with banners and placards." We are fairly sure this doesn't make any sense, but their key objection is that flying a large inflatable will occupy a (5x5M) corner of the square which will then not be available for gatherings of people with banners and placards - thereby depriving them of freedom of speech. So we need to demonstrate that there isn't, in practice, anyone planning to protest Trump's visit who would not in fact welcome a 6m high orange baby with Trump’s malevolent face flying in the sky over Parliament during this period.

  • Restart the BBC Hungarian Service
Restriction of media freedom in Hungary has had serious, and still deteriorating, consequences for democratic order in Central Europe. Hungarian Government pressure has forced nearly all significant independent media outlets into closure or pro-government ownership. Journalists in public media organisations report overt direction of editorial policy, and even of article content, by the Orbán government. Interpretation is frequently presented as fact and outright fabrication is far from unknown. At the same time the influence of Russian propaganda in the country is growing especially (though not only) in coverage of international affairs. The Hungarian media now follows Moscow's line in describing as 'terrorists' the regular Ukranian armed forces fighting Russian-backed insurgents in Donetsk. The extensive anti-Soros campaign has made use of articles from Putin-allied Russian media. These are reproduced exactly in Hungarian translation without acknowledgement of source. The OSCE monitoring group report declared that the credibility of the April 2018 election was undermined because 'intimidating and xenophobic rhetoric, [and] media bias…constricted the space for genuine political debate'. In the years that immediately followed the fall of communism Hungary was widely perceived as the regional leader in 'westernisation'. Now it ranks bottom of Freedom House’s Democracy Index for Central Europe. That's bad enough but in 2017 F.H's press freedom audit delcared Hungary's media 'only partly free'. Its score was several points behind Mongolia's. Last year the European Parliament censured Hungary for a "serious deterioration" in the rule of law. The situation has only continued to worsen over subsequent months. The BBC Hungarian Service (est. 1940) was an information lifeline supplying factually reliable news to Hungary throughout the Cold War era. The service was disbanded in December 2005 on the basis that the post 1989 mandate to support fragile/ fledgling democracy in Central Europe had expired. That judgement now appears excessively optimistic. A radio service broadcasting objective information to the country from London would make a valuable contribution to regional stability. The BBC maintains limited services to Hungary’s neighbours Serbia and Ukraine. The Serbian Service was restarted only last year. Hungary’s need is no less pressing. BBC, will you help?
