Solving the housing crisis together

I’m calling for a change in planning policy to allow single story dwellings to be built under permitted development in back gardens where a side gate is available or that has separate access.
No cars will be allowed under this scheme unless a space is already available and only 50% of gardens can be developed under licence for the next 5 years.
All buildings will need to be BR compliant and registered with Government under the IYBY scheme to avoid beds in sheds and modular will be the proffered method of delivery to avoid disruption to local neighbourhoods during construction.
Rents would be fixed at 20% lower than market rent providing an influx of affordable housing throughout geographical communities for tenants on low-income.

We could have 1 million homes on the ground in 5 years.

Why is this important?

This strategy will get the industry moving, provide tax free income for life for homeowners wishing to take part in this scheme, eradicate homelessness, take pressure off local authorities allowing local services to function without further cuts, keep skill pools in our capital cities, provide jobs and training and give HOPE to UK citizens who are facing future austerity.

All that is needed is a tweak in planning law.

I’ve lived and breathed this strategy since 2012 when I started talking to ministers about IYBY, affordable housing "In your back yard".
I’ve spent 25 years in the traditional building industry as a designer and project manager, but responded to governments call as an independent in 2009 to provide sustainable housing solutions using modular construction to help the affordable housing sector.
Between 2009 and 2014, I designed and brought to market two off the shelf housing solutions Cub and PODPASSIV, and used my entire life savings demonstrating solutions, and as a result became homeless in 2014. This allowed me to see first hand the misery on the streets, how the system is at breaking point and how victims of circumstance are pushed aside and forgotten about due to the magnitude of the problem. Homelessness can happen to anyone and 3 million households are one pay cheque away from homelessness today.
I’ve spent two years repairing and am now back with more determination than ever to make a stand and push for a 5-year pilot to get a million homes on the ground by 2021.

I’ve heard the challenges our LA's and HA's face, I've listened and experienced the challenges the modular sector is facing, I've seen first hand what it means to be homeless and how difficult it is to get back into society. The likelihood of further austerity is very probable as we negate the waters of Brexit, there is no time to delay, WE NEED HOMES.

I am happy to lead this campaign but I can’t do it alone.

Will you support me?

How it will be delivered

I plan to deliver the petition in person.
