Unitary Council for Buckinghamshire

Call for the bringing together all of the Bucks Councils to create unitary Council (or a North and South Unitary council) for Buckinghamshire.
For the councils to create a working group and committee to work towards a Unitary Council. The merger process needs to be led by people/group who have no vested interest in the outcome.

Until now Senior Council officers and Councillors have been protecting their organisations, roles, Council seats and power base. This needs to be set aside and for unitary Council to be created.

Why is this important?

MORE than £20million a year could be saved by streamlining the five local authorities in Bucks as well as a potential five year net saving of more than £58m. (Source: Buckinghamshire Business First)
Buckinghamshire County Council leader Martin Tett said he hoped the report would spark a debate that would lead to change.

The need for a unitary authority has recently been confirmed by retiring CEO of BCC Chris Williams.
Cllr Peter Hardy, who has held top jobs in the county council including a cabinet role for finance and resources and transport, as well as being former leader of South Bucks District Council, said Chief Executive Chris Williams’ calls for a “wholesale shake-up” of the “prehistoric” system in an open letter released yesterday should be taken “absolutely seriously.”
