• Stop the Privatisation of 999 Control Centres, Put Public Service before profit
Our 999 emergency Control rooms are currently staffed by dedicated professional public servants, direct employees of the three emergency services, with a wealth of knowledge and experience and direct links and relationships with those first emergency responders to the scene, Police, Fire & Ambulance. Remember when G4S made such a shambles of providing security for the Olympics that the army had to bail them out? [1] Well now the same private security firm could be in charge of handling emergency 999 calls here in Northamptonshire. [2] Putting life or death decisions into their hands is a frightening prospect. Adam Simmonds, the police commissioner in charge of this decision, is elected by local people to serve us. Together we could launch a huge people-powered campaign to pressure him into rejecting this idea. At the moment, police chiefs are scoping out how the G4S takeover could work - it’s not a done deal yet. Before Adam was elected in 2012 he made a strong commitment to 38 Degrees members not to privatise police services in Northamptonshire. He said: “I have no intentions of privatising our police force and therefore I would be grateful if you would spread the word that this Candidate for PCC isn't interested in that agenda.” [3] Together we could remind Adam of his promise, and show him that local people want this privatisation off the table. People-power works. • Tianamen Square in London
On Thursday the 22nd of October, the Metropolitan Police arrested Chinese democracy activist and Tianamen Square survivor, Shao Jiang, on 'suspicion of conspiracy to commit threatening behaviour'. His crime? He was holding up Amnesty International signs which read; 'End autocracy' and 'Democracy Now', as the Chinese President's, Xi Jinping, cavalcade drove past London's Mansion House. The arrest appears to indicate that the British government is willing to kowtow to China's wishes to suppress any criticism of the Chinese government. Unchallenged, these arrests could represent a very dangerous precedent and could be just the tip of the iceberg in eroding the democratic freedoms that British people have enjoyed for centuries. We urge you to sign this petition in order to protect our lond-held freedom to protest and express freedom of speech.

  • Punish Election Campaign Lies
If a citizen lies to the police it's Perverting the Course of Justice and has serious consequences. If a citizen lies in Court it's Perjury and has serious consequences. But when Politicians tell lies in order to get themselves elected it's just 'Politics'. Politicians must be held accountable for the lies they tell in order to get elected and the only way to do that is to force them to be as good as their words by making the breaking of election campaign promises, such as David Cameron is doing right now with cutting tax credits, akin to a form of Perjury that is punishable by them being removed from office as a minimum.

  • Refugees Welcome in Broadway
David Cameron announced we’ll welcome 20,000 more Syrian refugees. But there’s a catch. This will take 5 years, leaving thousands of refugees in limbo. It’s now up to us to show that in cities, towns and villages all across the country we’re ready to welcome people now. Aylan, the toddler who drowned fleeing Syria, was just three years old. His town was under attack by Isis. His five year old brother and his mum also died trying to reach safety. We don't want Britain to be the kind of country that turns its back as people drown in their desperation to flee places like Syria. So let's stand up for Britain's long tradition of helping refugees fleeing war. Let's show the Prime Minister that we, the people of the UK, are proud to do our part and provide refuge to people in their hour of need. Please sign and share, or start your own petition for your town or city here: https://you.38degrees.org.uk/efforts/refugees-welcome

  • Stop Killing Gay Ugandans
This is important because thousands of innocent people are losing their lives on the grounds of their sexuality, something they simply CANNOT change. It promotes hatred and propagates the children. Those who are gay and want to live a normal life don't have this option as a result of its prejudice and legal position.

  • Demand the Return of Echo from Denmark
Around 3pm on 4th September 2015 the Danish armed warship HDMS Knud Rasmussen entered Lerwick harbour and took the small boat Echo aboard before leaving for the Faroe islands half an hour later. The Echo had been seized from the Dutch-registered Sea Shepherd ship Sam Simon on 1 September by Lerwick police at the request of the Danish authorities, in response to a letter of request issued by the Faroese chief of police on 22August. The seizure followed the small boat’s involvement in the defense of 61 pilot whales at a grindadráp at Sandavágur on 12 August. On Thursday police informed Sea Shepherd’s lawyers that the Echo would be held for a week, giving the lawyers time to appeal the seizure but the Danish authorities fast tracked the extradition and the Scottish police released the boat to the Danish vessel. Insisting the small boat be returned to Lerwick at least until the appeal process is completed is an important signal to the Faroe Islands and their Danish protectors that they cannot ride roughshod over the justice system of another country without consequence.

  • Legalisation of Marijuana in the UK (Production, Sale and use)
Marijuana has been proven virtually harmless multiple times through verified studies. Along with this the effects of it are less than alcohol and the effects are less permanent. Marijuana is far safer than both Tobacco and Alcohol yet is still banned in the United Kingdom today. The evidence is all there to prove it is safe and should be legal. Pros: Weed is 114 times safer than alcohol Since being legalised in American States, Overall, crime has fallen by 15% and murder has dropped by 50%. Dope is actually less addictive than drinking coffee Legalising weed would recharge the British economy (If we legalised cannabis, up to £900m could be raised annually in taxes, according to the Institute for Economic Research.) Cons: You feel really tired and lazy for a few hours Smoking can harm the body ( Though edibles are 100% safe) So should it really still be banned?
