Frack Free Erewash at Long Eaton Town Hall

No Fracking Way events are being held everywhere on Sunday 31st January 2016, so local Derbyshire people have been called to gather along with thousands of others throughout the UK for a short time to contribute to a swell of resistance to fracking that is growing locally, nationally and globally. This No Fracking Way national event is to raise awareness of the present UK government's plans to push through their agenda of Fracking, against the wishes of the vast majority of the people. Our goal is to have Fracking banned completely before it becomes the environmental disaster in the making that it is. By that we mean not just a total ban in Northern Ireland and a temporary moratorium in Scotland as stands at present, but a permanent ban across the length and breadth of the British Isles. Evidence of the results of Fracking from abroad in places such as Pennsylvannia, California [usa] and New South Wales [Au ] totally supports our stance against it in the UK
The No Fracking Way Erewash Gathering will meet outside Long Eaton Town Hall, at 2pm so that local people can meet up with each other, raise awareness, find out the facts, and show our concern at what those that govern us are allowing to happen in our communities and in our towns, villages, national parks and countryside, then at approx 2.30-3pm, those who fancy it, can come on a family-friendly ramble from Long Eaton to Attenborough Nature Reserve, via our Erewash MP, Maggie Throup's office where we will post some reading matter for her before heading off to Attenborough. Bring colourful banners, placards, etc.
Fracking and associated exploratory activities are now big possibilities for happening in Erewash and Broxtowe as well as in other parts of Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire because on August 18th 2015, the Oil and Gas Authority were permitted by the Government to release details of new onshore oil and gas licences issued to energy companies who will use the nasty fracking technique. See this link for details of the East Midlands and South Yorkshire areas that are now under threathttp://drillordrop.com/east-midlands-and-south-yorkshire-licences/
The first group, numbering 27 licences blocks (usually 10km squares), were mostly in Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, and in the area between Sheffield and Leeds. These licences were issued to 12 different companies, as well as some new entrants to the industry. Of the 27 unveiled, eight are in Lincolnshire, nine in Nottinghamshire/Derbyshire, and four between Sheffield and Leeds. The main concentration is in Cheshire, Lancashire, Yorkshire, Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire. When the second stage licences have been awarded, the whole of the east coast from Skegness to Scarborough will also be under licence.
