Protest 2016 train fare rise & support public ownership

Rail fares are rising again, yet the cost of living doesn’t get any cheaper. In January 2016 passengers will be asked to pay out even more for their rail fares. Passengers and taxpayers are paying a high price for the failures of rail privatisation.
I would think that many 38 Degrees members will want to support the Action For Rail protests on August 18 for an affordable railway under public ownership!
On 18 August the inflation figure used to calculate increases in regulated fares, like Season tickets and Anytime Day tickets, will be announced. The new fare prices will come into force in January 2016 and, even though the government has capped fares at the level of inflation, the rise will still add to pressures on the cost of living. Furthermore the environmental arguments for an decent integrated public transport system are overwhelming: 85% of global CO2 transport emissions come from cars, planes and trucks.
On Tuesday 18 August Action For Rail is joining forces with Bring Back British Rail, We Own It, Compass, The People's Assembly Against Austerity & Campaign against Climate Change to protest for an affordable railway under public ownership. There will be a major demonstration at London Waterloo and protests at stations across the country.
I am helping organise the protest at Derby Railway station on Tuesday the 18th 7.30-8.45 am. William is doing likewise at Burton 16:00 - 17:40 pm.
The plan is also to use the 38 Degrees petition objecting to the postponing of the planned electrification to services.
