50 in 10: Campaign for 50% cycling in 10y in urban areas
Considerable efforts will be needed to change the transport culture of all of us. Considerable infrastructure is needed, with cycle lanes, bus lanes, less traffic and slower speeds. Additionally, cycle training, help with tricycles for those with poor balance, and other support is important., but together the investment will lead to vast savings in the longer term.
Why is this important?
50 in 10, the name for our plan for 50% cycling or journeys in urban areas to be bicycle in 10years. World Health Organization, as in many European cities, advise cycling and walking, as an important measure to rebuild communities being damaged by too much traffic.
Cycling makes children more independent, with less traffic there is better bus flow for non-cyclists, fuel consumption and pollution and carbon footprint reduces. A step towards Net Zero.
Cycling, if safe, is popular, increases children's independence, helps us all access community activities.
