Abolish Standing Charges

Make all standing charges zero or abolish them altogether, making energy bills much simpler and fairer and similar to the pricing for petrol and diesel.

Why is this important?

Standing charges have recently been made compulsory by Ofgem. They state that 'these can be zero' but very few companies are currently offering zero standing charge tariffs. The average is often around £100 a year depending on where you live before any energy has been used. This means that everyone pays the same initial charge: A bit like a pole tax on energy. It means that the poor and energy efficient are paying more per unit, subsidising the rich and profligate.
