Access to Teignbridge leisure centres
Chang their access policy on allowing a carer in free of charge when access their pool or gym to encourage the disabled person to get fit as at the moment your carer must receive carers allowance to access the facility An this policy was bought in September 2015 I challenged them I was told to take them to court or a higher council
Why is this important?
It has stopped me an several learning disabilities clients an volunteer groups from access to sport An swimming I have used this facility before since 2008 with my carer going in free of charge they have help me in an out of the pool An gym encourages me to do things an try new exercise , I felt this to be unfair as it has impacted on my health issues it has caused me to feel embarrassed as my carers give their time up on a evening early morning an Sundays how can I expect them to pay as I was paying a monthly membership.
I have contacted all leisure centre in whole of the UK an Teignbridge are the only ones with this policy also one their condition now that every six months a disabled person must prove their eligiblity to get a discount an a fee each 6months !'!!
