ASA to regulate Political Advertising

All advertising in the UK is regulated by the Advertising Standards Authority, except for Political Advertising: this has been evident in the Brexit campaigning (we all saw the Brexit NHS bus), and I'm sure the Remain campaign has been guilty of false advertising too. The ASA needs to regulate political advertising, and over subjects as important as Brexit, it is unacceptable that the government is exempt.

Why is this important?

We have to be able to trust political campaigns, and because politicians are not held to account in their campaigning, these campaigns are extremely damaging. In the example of Brexit, it was down to the British public to make an absolutely enormous decision, and the fact that so much campaigning was based on fiction made the British people extremely vulnerable in making decisions. The British Government must be held accountable for their campaigning, and the ASA could help with that.
