BBC Economy Measures
The government's plan of diminishing the BBC's resources shows little or no regard for its facilities. One thinks of the Radio 2 as it once was and how it has shrunk to a pale shadow of what it once was. In the eighties it covered a broad spectrum of light music with erudite disc-jockeys like Richard Baker (Your Hundred Best Tunes); Nigel Douglas (Light opera, tunes from the shows etc). Late night music with Steve Race etc.
No thought is given to quality listening, merely a concern with economy. Radio 2 has been reduced to being another Radio 1 and, in my case, not worth switching on. One might argue that it is catering for a majority of the young, but then so are about fifty other stations.
There is only one truly eclectic program left and that will likely be terminated in six months. The only remaining example I am aware of is 'Harmony Night' on Kent/Berkshire on a Sunday night. This does cater for the older age group and endeavours to play whatever is requested.
There are forces at large who would love to reduce the BBC to rather bland mouthpiece for government edicts and replace it GB News or something similar.

Why is this important?
Catering only for the majority is of course a very faulty argument on so many self-evident points ..
