Bobbin Lacemaking - Has to Be Included in the Intangible Cultural Heritage in the UK Inventory.

Please ensure that you include bobbin lacemaking in the UK to the Intangible Cultural Heritage list.

Within the UK, we have a unique history with bobbin lacemaking as we have 3 types of lace which are unique to this country, Honiton, Bedfordshire and Bucks Point.

At present bobbin lacemaking is on the edge of joining the Red List of Endangered Crafts and we have to work to ensure that this beautiful craft is not lost.

With bobbin lace added to the list, it will help promote interest and more people who would like to learn the craft.

Bobbin lace is important as it is good for dexterity, problem solving and mental health. Being able to take a finished piece of lace and say 'I made this' is an amazing accomplishment.

As a teacher and lace designer, I have personally watched lace makers flourish and grow in confidence, from just beginning to following through the lace journey and this is thrilling to watch and to be a part of.

Please add bobbin lacemaking to the list, without help I am afraid that the craft will vanish and it will just be forgotten and the knowledge that we hold in this country will be lost.

Why is this important?

Help me to promote bobbin lacemaking, the craft is on the decline and if the future is not secured, all the accumulated knowledge will be lost
