Bourne needs an A15 bypass before these lorries kill someone

The solution is clear and imperative -  a bypass for the A15 around Bourne, redirecting lorries and large vehicles away from the heart of Bourne. This would reduce congestion and improve air quality, lowering the risks to pedestrian and cyclists alike and return a sense of community  and calm to out town.

Whilst none of the potential options is perfect it is time to place the safety of our children ahead of the various objections.

Why is this important?

Every day in Bourne I witness the looming dangers posed by the constant stream of large lorries navigating the A15 through the town centre, passing close to two schools on the way. The current traffic situation is not only perilous for the children and teachers attending these schools but also for the parents and guardians trying to ensure their safety. The relatively narrow road up to and through the town centre is a challenge for these massive lorries which are becoming increasingly frequent.

In recent years the size and number of the lorries has grown, making the journey to the town centre along South Road an exercise in anxiety for those on foot. Mothers with push chairs must be ever watchful as these sixty ton monsters navigate the twists and turns veering dangerously close to pedestrians as they meet on a bend, forcing pedestrians to take evasive action.

More over, the attraction of the town centre is overshadowed by the congestion. Shoppers and residents alike face risks when merely trying to cross the street, their safety compromised by the narrowness of the roads trying to accomodate these enormous vehicles.

This issue extends to cyclists as well who find the roads far too dangerous and choose to ride on the pavement instead, inadvertently putting pedestrians at risk. It’s no way to foster a safe, pleasant, and healthy commute.

In addition to the danger from the size of the lorries young children and adults alike are exposed to the dangers of particulates in the air from the large amounts of exhaust fumes from these lorries.
