To: David Davis, Secretary of State for Exiting the European Union

Brexit - Protect the social dimension!

We need to safeguard the current rights of workers gained through EU legislation and social policy, whilst the UK were members of the European Union.

Why is this important?

Could you please make a commitment that the social dimension element of EU legislation/regulations currently incorporated in UK law protecting the rights of workers in the EU is safeguarded and not eroded following the exit from the EU.

Could you set out the process the government intends to use to review the current EU/EC Regulations and Directives for instance that form part of the social policy agenda, and how it intends to safeguard and protect existing rights for workers in the UK.

It is important that following the exit from the EU, that the current safeguards (headings listed below) are protected, and where possible improved upon.

Free movement
Fair pay
Improved working conditions
Social security protection
Freedom of association and collective bargaining
Training provision
Equal treatment for men and women
Industrial democracy/Collective bargaining
Health protection and workplace safety
Protection for children, older people and disabled people

I wrote to my MP to ask her to raise this question with David Jones, Minister of State For Exiting the European Union on 24 August 2016 without any reply as yet - this is in breach of the Cabinet Office deadline of 20 working days for replying to MP written correspondence on behalf of their constituents.

I wrote to David Davis (Secretary of State For Exiting the European Union) via my MP on 27 September.
