Daily Standing Charges for Gas and Electric
Why do the energy providers still charge a daily standing charge (DSC) for the provision of Gas and Electric to consumers. The DSC not only varies between the energy providers but also differs on each of their tariffs. The DSC is in excess of 20p per day per tariff. You therefore, could be paying over £146 per year to energy providers in addition to the cost of your the energy (gas therms and electric wattage) provided.
Historically the DSC was levied when there was only 1 supplier available, and I believe used for the maintenance of the UK supply grids. This no longer is valid. Therefore there is no reason why a DSC should be levied to any consumer for any reason.
I believe that the DSC is being used by the energy providers use to increase payments by consumers. The Government should get the DSC abolished.

Why is this important?
The Daily Standing Charge on Gas and electric energy makes no sense. Its just a way for energy providers to get more money from the consumer.
