Diesel Electric Trains shouldn’t be running

The government has removed Sheffield from HS2. Sheffield is now the only major city in Western Europe without an electric line. (and of Nottingham and Derby too.)

Why is this important?

The diesel electric trains are expensive to run and over 60 years old. Nobody makes them any more. The line cannot be left out anymore. Levelling up? This is the worst possible example.
