Domestic violence: allow changing name by deed poll
People who have fled domestic violence and are married can't change their names by deed poll without the abuser being informed - this needs to change.
Why is this important?
Many people who have fled want to change their names so that there abuser will never find them but if they are married the abuser has to be notified and has to give permission around the name change and that's the last person that people who have fled domestic violence want to talk to or want to find out about the name change.
This prevents survivors of abuse from being able to feel secure and safe from their abuser as many people who are survivors of abuse can't properly feel safe due to this process that is in place and so we need to change the fact or allow people escaping abuse and trying to survive abuse to change their name without the abuser ever being informed.
