Don’t let them Slash, Trash & Privatise our NHS: Say NO to the STP

Don’t let them Slash, Trash & Privatise our NHS
Say no to the secretive STP plan for NE London
We’re calling on our elected representatives – councillors, mayors and MPs – to take a stand to defend the NHS in NE London.
Our message is simple:
“Don’t just rubberstamp plans that will slash local health budgets and leave NE London short of an A&E and a hospital. Say ‘No’ to the local Sustainability and Transformation Plan (STP) – like other MPs and councils have”

Why is this important?

The Government is using local ‘Sustainability and Transformation Plans’ (STPs), to drive through £22bn of cuts in the NHS from 2017.
The population of NE London is set to grow by 345,000 over the next 15 years – that’s the size of Leicester. But the STP for our area officially includes cuts of £578m... and we’ve seen evidence the true figure may be closer to £1bn.

To protect services in our area, we demand:
• PLANS FOR an additional hospital, built with public money
• A HALT to the closure of A&E at King George Hospital in Goodmayes – Losing A&E also means losing 270 acute beds.
• NO CUTS to GPs and community based staff – A shortfall of 195 GPs is planned for the inner east London boroughs alone. GPs will be replaced by less qualified staff across the STP area. Health visitors, community nurses and community teams will also be cut.
• PROPER FUNDING for social care – STPs claim to ‘integrate’ health & social care, but social care funding has been slashed and 400,000 people nationally are without care. This in turn puts pressure on hospitals.
• THE REVERSAL OF CUTS to mental health services – The STP barely mentions mental health – yet it makes up 28% of health need. The cuts to mental health are a national scandal.
• TRANSPARENCY and democracy – STPs have been drafted in secret. Now they are now being signed off without involving local people, councillors, MPs or NHS staff in a full consultation process.

NE London Save Our NHS represents the health campaigns in Barking & Dagenham, City & Hackney, Havering, Newham, Redbridge, Tower Hamlets & Waltham Forest. We are working together to fight for properly funded health & social care, in a publicly run NHS.
